IMPORTANT: Please read information below to assist you in completing your application online.

About this fund

The waste levy grants support projects that increase the range, scale and number of waste minimisation activities on the Kāpiti Coast. They're funded by part of the Waste Levy fees paid by waste disposal operators and others to the Ministry for the Environment, which is then allocated to local bodies to administer. There is no rates funding involved.

The business waste reduction co-fund* focuses on assisting existing businesses in implementing measures that will lead to long-term and measurable minimisation of waste from their operations. *Businesses must contribute at least 50% of project costs, and evidence of these costs must be verifiable by council officers.

Priority funding areas:

  • Elimination/reduction of waste at source, reuse and recovery, recycling of materials for further use or processing.
  • Organic waste
  • Construction and demolition waste
  • Projects that fill a gap within current waste services in Kāpiti
